Premier League release statement on Everton controversy v West Ham

Everton were at the heart of more VAR controversy against West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Darren Bond initially pointed to the penalty spot following a challenge by Hammers defender Max Kilman on Toffees forward Beto at Goodison Park.
However, the decision was overturned after Bond was invited to review the footage of the incident on the pitchside monitor, and play restarted with a drop ball.
After the penalty decision was scratched off, it remained goalless at Goodison Park, with Tomas Soucek eventually opening the scoring in the second half.

The Goodison Park faithful were left disappointed when their side no longer had an opportunity to open the scoring on the stroke of half-time from 12 yards.

The Premier League have released a statement already to explain the decision.
Writing on X, the Premier League Match Centre said: “VAR checked the referee’s call of penalty to Everton for a challenge by Kilman on Beto – and deemed that no foul was committed, therefore recommended an on-field review.
“The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball.”

Everton have just four games remaining at Goodison Park
Everton’s clash with West Ham at Goodison Park marked their fifth to last Premier League game at their famous old stadium, before they relocate to Bramley-Moore Dock ahead of next season.
Following the international break, the Toffees face a trip across Stanley Park to face local rivals Liverpool, ahead of a home clash with Arsenal on Saturday 5 April.
David Moyes’ men then host Manchester City on 19 April, before facing relegation strugglers Ipswich and Southampton on 3 May and 18 May respectively.
The fact that the Toffees’ last home game comes against a Southampton side who will almost certainly be relegated by the time they travel to Merseyside will please the Everton faithful who will be desperate to see Goodison Park get the winning send off it deserves.
Meanwhile, under the stewardship of Moyes, the Toffees have pulled themselves well clear of relegation trouble and can look ahead to a positive future.
