Gordon was a 74th-minute substitute at Wembley, coming on to replace Marcus Rashford, who had started on the left-hand side.
The Magpies wide-man had barely touched the ball before he was involved in a challenge on the left touchline that left him wincing in pain as he clutched his hip.
He tried to carry on, but broke down again just before the final whistle when he fell to the floor in apparent distress.
He was being treated as the final whistle blew, and had to be helped to his feet by two members of England’s medical staff.
He then hobbled down the tunnel while the rest of his team-mates celebrated in the centre-circle and acknowledged the England fans, with Tuchel confirming the winger had suffered an injury as he addressed the media after the game.
Tuchel said: “He looks injured. First of all, I thought it was his stomach, but no, it is his hip. Unfortunately, it does not look good.”
It remains to be seen whether Gordon is able to recover in time for England’s second World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Monday evening, but Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will be hoping he has not sustained any serious damage.
Gordon has missed Newcastle’s last two matches following his sending off in the FA Cup defeat to Brighton, and will also have to sit out the home game against Brentford on April 2.
However, provided he has not suffered a major injury issue, he should be available to make his Magpies return against Leicester City on April 7
