Newcastle United will have to fend off European giants if they want to keep hold of their best players this summer.
After several frustrating transfer windows at St James’ Park, Newcastle United finally have money to spend this summer.
Newcastle have solved their PSR issues, meaning sporting director Paul Mitchell will be given funds to improve Eddie Howe’s side.
But Newcastle must keep their star players and that will be the primary focus this summer. This squad has just etched their name into club history by winning the first major trophy in 70 years. Howe will want to keep this side together.
That includes a core group of players such as Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon – who have all been key players for Howe.
Frustratingly, there will likely be interest in all of them this summer.

Barcelona want to sign Sandro Tonali
Tonali was excellent at Wembley as Newcastle beat Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. He has been a fan favourite on Tyneside ever since he signed from AC Milan.
But AC Milan fans are missing Tonali, and there have been several rumours linking him back to Italy. Thankfully, Tonali’s agent shut down Italy rumours but now Barcelona have thrown their name into the mix.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keeping an eye on Tonali having held a long-term interest in him.
Barcelona submitted a £55million bid (€65m) for Tonali back in 2020 when he was playing for Brescia but the offer was rejected and he moved to AC Milan a year later.
The La Liga giants have continued to monitor Tonali ever since and could reignite their interest this summer.
How long is Sandro Tonali’s contract at Newcastle United?
The good news for Newcastle is that they have plenty of control over Tonali’s future.
Tonali’s contract at Newcastle is valid until 2028, meaning the club will be in no rush to make a decision on his future.

With Tonali joining Newcastle for £55m back in 2023, there is no way he would be let go without the club receiving a huge profit on their initial deal.
Tonali is currently earning £120,000 per week at Newcastle but having become a key part of Howe’s side he would likely receive a significant pay rise should he sign a new deal at St James’ Park.
