Nunez and Isak moved to England in the summer of 2022 with Liverpool forking out £85m for Nunez and Newcastle paying £63m for Isak, however, the pair have endured very contrasting fortunes. Nunez has scored 40 times in 136 appearances compared to Isak’s 58 goals in 100 outings.
Isak is now regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe, creating constant speculation surrounding his future. That is despite recent comments made by CEO Darren Eales earlier this month, who confirmed talks over a new contract set to place in the summer.
“We’re going to be clear – he has multi-years left,” said Eales with Isak under contract until 2028. “We will have the discussions in terms of a new deal, just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno (Guimaraes) or Anthony Gordon. That’s something that we will approach in the summer.
“The reality is that all of our players are under long-term deals. They’re committed to the club. So, from that perspective, we’re not looking to move any player on. We have no intention at all of those players being moved on.”

However, former Premier League striker Collymore believes in a scenario where Isak ends up at Liverpool and Nunez joins Newcastle. The reason? Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
However, what Collymore fails to mention is Newcastle are under no pressure to sell this summer, as also stated by Eales. “We’re not under the gun or anything like that,” he said earlier this month.
Nevertheless, Collymore wrote in his Caught Offside column: “I think the Alexander Isak to Liverpool rumours are not going to go away anytime soon, and Newcastle may need to sell because of FFP – especially if they do not qualify for the Champions League. And I think Isak would do very well at Liverpool, and it could be one to watch.”
