Everton are one of several clubs hoping they can negotiate a transfer bargain for Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret this month, according to GiveMeSport.
It was reported on 31 December that amid interest from Crystal Palace, Tottenham and West Ham, the Toffees are keen to knock cash-strapped Lyon down into a cut-price sale for Caqueret.

Lyon – owned by previous Goodison Park takeover candidate John Textor – face a January transfer ban and provisional relegation due to financial irregularities, and thus could be forced into a January firesale.
As a result, the Blues are hopeful that the troubled Ligue 1 side will be looking to get Caqueret – who earns £54,000-per-week – off their books in the coming weeks without too much trouble.

Evertonians will certainly be able to sympathise with the worries of Lyon fans as they face pressure from the footballing authorities to re-rail their finances to avoid a disaster at the end of the season.
The Toffees too faced the full force of punishment for their own PSR issues last term, being slapped with two points deductions and having eight wiped off their tally in an ultimately successful relegation battle.

However, with Dan Friedkin having completed his takeover on Merseyside – beating Textor in the process – the Blues’ financial woes are hopefully a thing of the past with a new era on the horizon.
While Lyon are currently facing the opposite scenario, the sheer level of competition for Caqueret means that the Ligue 1 strugglers may still be able to command a decent transfer fee for the midfielder.
Sean Dyche won’t have a vast array of cash at his disposal to spend this month despite Friedkin’s takeover, but will certainly be hoping that his side’s bid can win out and bring Caqueret to Goodison.
In other Everton news, the Blues are set to block January approaches for a player who Dyche doesn’t seem to be a “fan” of.
