Miguel Almiron admits on what he did prior to his last game for Newcastle
In an exclusive interview with Tyne Wear Sport, Miguel Almiron opened up about his emotional departure from Newcastle United, revealing the deep affection he developed for the club and its fans during his time on Tyneside.
Almiron, who joined Newcastle from Atlanta United in January 2019, made a surprise return to his former club in January 2025, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable moments at St. James’ Park.
“I was emotional, very emotional,” Almiron admitted, his voice cracking with emotion. “I didn’t want to leave Newcastle, but I felt it was time for me to return to Atlanta, the club that gave me the opportunity to make a name for myself.”
When asked about his favorite memories of his time at Newcastle, Almiron’s eyes lit up. “There are so many, but one that stands out is the win against Manchester City,” he said. “The atmosphere was electric, and to score the winning goal was an incredible feeling.”
Almiron also spoke about the bond he formed with the Newcastle fans, who took to him from the moment he arrived on Tyneside. “The fans were amazing, they welcomed me with open arms,” he said. “I’ll never forget the way they sang my name, it was an incredible feeling.”
As he prepared to leave Newcastle for the final time, Almiron revealed that he made a surprise visit to the St. James’ Park pitch, alone, to take in the atmosphere one last time. “I just wanted to say goodbye, to thank the pitch for the memories,” he said, his voice choked with emotion.
Almiron’s emotional interview has sparked a wave of nostalgia among Newcastle fans, who took to social media to express their gratitude for the Paraguayan’s honesty and to wish him well on his return to Atlanta.
“Miguel Almiron will always be a Newcastle legend,” one fan tweeted. “We’ll never forget his passion and dedication.”
As for Almiron, he’s focused on his new chapter at Atlanta United, but his heart remains on Tyneside. “Newcastle will always be a part of me,” he said. “I’ll never forget the memories I made there, and I’ll always cherish the love and support of the fans.”
