The 25-year-old was not part of Newcastle’s trophy celebrations in Dubai. Instead, Alexander Isak was on international duty playing against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
Things got off to a poor start for Sweden when Luxembourg secured a shock 1-0 win last Saturday. Isak’s performance was labelled as ‘weak‘ by Swedish media following the defeat, but Newcastle United’s star striker certainly made up for it in brilliant fashion against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night.
Isak scored a stunning goal and bagged an assist, helping Sweden to a 5-1 thrashing in the Strawberry Arena.
Newcastle target Anthony Elanga also scored against Northern Ireland, prompting Isak and William Osula to send messages of congratulations to the young winger.
This season, Isak has struggled with injury problems. The 25-year-old missed Newcastle’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Liverpool at the end of February due to a groin problem. He was able to make a full recovery and even scored in the Carabao Cup final against the Reds two weeks later.
In his post-match interview, Isak shared what he is always being asked by club staff, especially after playing the full 90 minutes of a game.

Because of how well Isak has played this season, it should come as no surprise that Newcastle’s club doctors will be keeping a close eye on him, even when he’s away on international duty.
Since joining Newcastle, Isak has had six separate spells on the sidelines due to injury – his lengthiest being a thigh injury he picked up shortly after signing for the Magpies in 2022, which kept him out for over three months.
Fans will be glad to hear that he will return to Tyneside without any fresh injury concerns and with a renewed sense of confidence, thanks to his wonderful strike on Tuesday.
Speaking to SportBladet after Sweden’s win against Northern Ireland, Isak was asked whether Newcastle’s doctors will have any concerns after he played the full 90 minutes in the win.
“We always get text messages asking if everything is okay,” he said.
“No one had seen anything on the field that looked worrying, everything looked good and that’s nice.”
Isak will now report back to Newcastle to join in on Carabao Cup celebrations, having missed out on the Dubai leg of the party. Despite that, the players still made sure Isak could be involved in some capacity.
“They actually did (call me in Dubai), so I had to put my phone on mute. But it was fun to watch.”

Newcastle will be a sea of black and white on Saturday when the players embark on an open-top bus parade through the city to give fans a good look at their latest piece of silverware.
Fans will then completely take over the Town Moor as the Newcastle players take to the stage for even more celebrations.
There are murmers that Sam Fender could be in Newcastle to perform at the trophy celebrations, after reports initially claimed that he would not be in attendance.
Record goalscorer Alan Shearer confirmed his Town Moor attendance, but admitted he would not be on the bus with the players as he didn’t believe he deserved to be there with them.
Speaking to SportBladet, Isak was asked about the upcoming celebrations in Newcastle.
“It will be nice. They haven’t been to Newcastle so I haven’t missed that part of the city. We’ll come back and celebrate with the fans now. I think the parade will be incredible. It’s a bus parade and something more when you meet the fans on a big field. I don’t know exactly how many there will be, but most of the city I think.”
