Premier League make official Newcastle United vs Brentford decision that should worry fans

Newcastle United resume their Premier League campaign with a visit from Brentford.
It is the first match for Eddie Howe’s side since they lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley earlier this month.
All 14 Newcastle United players on international duty are currently making their way back to Tyneside ready for the Carabao Cup bus parade on March 29th.
After that, attention turns back to the Premier League with Newcastle still chasing Champions League qualification.
Newcastle sit sixth in the Premier League table and have a game in hand on those above them – a win on Wednesday against Brentford would keep the Magpies on track for a top-five finish.

Premier League announce officials for Newcastle vs Brentford
Wednesday night’s clash will be the third meeting between Newcastle and Brentford this season.
Newcastle lost 4-2 to Brentford in the reverse league fixture, but just 11 days later Newcastle beat Brentford in the Carabao Cup on their route to winning the trophy.
Ahead of their third clash, the Premier League have announced the officials for the fixture.
Peter Bankes will referee the match, while Craig Pawson has been selected for VAR duties.
Pawson has been involved in Newcastle controversy and he was also in charge of VAR when he decided to award Newcastle a penalty against Everton this season – Anthony Gordon ended up missing from the spot.

Former referee Mark Clattenburg claims VAR helped Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, and Howe will hope for some favourable decisions against Brentford too.

Bankes has refereed two Newcastle games this season – the 1-0 defeat to Brighton in October and the 3-1 defeat to Fulham in September.
Zooming out, Newcastle have actually only won once in their last 12 games refereed by Bankes – a 1-0 win over Wolves back in 2022.
