Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes went off script as he celebrated the Magpies’ Carabao Cup win in front of tens of thousands of supporters at the town moor, sending the crowd into hysterics. The Brazilian answered a few questions posed by Geordie royalty Ant & Dec on presenting duties, before breaking into song in near-perfect English.
Bruno started with some family-friendly chants before turning to Sandro Tonali’s iconic anthem which is often heard on the terraces at St James’ Park. “Sandro Tonali, Sandro Tonali! He eats spaghetti, drinks Moretti, he hates f****** Sunderland.”
After a few goes of the X-rated taunt at Newcastle’s rivals, BBC reporters cut into their broadcast to apologise for the bad language heard. Those in attendance didn’t seem to mind the expletives as they revelled in Guimaraes’ celebrations.

Speaking before Bruno’s chant, Howe said: “Yeah, it was an amazing moment when that whistle went. It was obviously a long length of time since the club’s won any silverware, we were aware of the importance of that.
“We wanted to try and bring success, happiness to everybody here, but the scenes today have just taken our breath away. A big thank you to everyone that’s come and supported us.
“The loyalty, passion, devotion that you show us, and we really appreciate it. Thank you.”
Earlier in the days fans had flocked to the city centre and the town moor hours before the official start time, St James’ Park was a busy as it was on the famous takeover evening and in the aftermath of the Carabao Cup final, and fans young and old revelled in an occasion many have not ever seen the likes of. Lampposts were climbed, flags waved and tears shed – again.
Less than an hour before the Newcastle United team bus was set to depart from St James’ Park, a huge flag was unveiled from the top of the Sandman Hotel adjacent to the stadium, with Eddie Howe pictured celebrating. The giant mural left fans stunned in the city centre as huge cheers went up as the surprise display was revealed from the top of the building.
