Alexander Isak might have played a significant role in defeating Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (16 March), but Reds fans believe they’re going to have the last laugh as far as the Sweden international is concerned.
The 25-year-old brought the hammer down on Liverpool’s hopes of winning the EFL Cup as he scored the second goal in Newcastle’s 2-1 win as they claimed their first silverware since 1955.
Dan Burn had initially given the Magpies a one-goal lead on the stroke of halftime, and Federico Chiesa’s 94th-minute goal had proven to be nothing more than a consolation.

Liverpool still remain top of the Premier League with a commanding 12-point lead, but they are looking toward the future and most importantly the summer transfer window.

Isak is currently under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, but his long-term future has been the subject of major discussion throughout this season as his scintillating performances are attracting a lot of interest.
Liverpool are one of the clubs who would like to sign the Newcastle striker and Football Insider revealed they are willing to offer Darwin Nunez as part of a potential deal.
Industry insider Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle have set an “incredibly high” price tag on Isak’s head for any club interested in negotiating.

Signing a striker is something that Liverpool fans want to see the club do in the summer transfer window, and Isak has quickly proven himself as one of the top options in Europe.
After the EFL Cup final lot was on the pitch to congratulate all of the Newcastle players as he showed his respect, and Liverpool fans have taken his interaction with Isak as a sign that a deal between the two parties is done.
