On the latest episode of the Rest Is Football podcast, the panel of Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards discussed Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.
For Shearer, it was a fresh chance to mention Newcastle United’s journey to the Carabao Cup final.
“Real Madrid wouldn’t go far wrong in looking at how Newcastle dispatched Arsenal over two legs in the Carabao Cup if you remember,” he said before laughing.
Gary Lineker and Micah Richards then burst out laughing themselves, shocked to hear their fellow podcaster still going on about Newcastle United’s Wembley victory.
Shearer added: “It’s not ending guys!”

If there is one club that knows about beating Arsenal this season then it is Newcastle United!
Eddie Howe has faced Mikel Arteta on three occasions, winning every time. In fact, the Magpies have not conceded a single goal to Arsenal this season.
That could be a pivotal game, as Newcastle will hope they are still in the race for the Champions League come the penultimate match of the season.
As for Arsenal, it is unclear what their situation will be. The title race is beyond them, while their Champions League journey could come to an end if Real Madrid take a leaf out of Newcastle’s book.
That is the view of Shearer, who remains on cloud nine after Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup – and rightly so!
