Richards was in awe of the Leeds United loanee, highlighting his ‘perfect’ defending.
Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Richards said [2 April, 10m 20s]: “Harrison was so pivotal in what Everton were trying to do. He’s nice and compact to make four at the back.
“Normally wingers go on the outside, this time it’s the inside to protect [the defence]. This is perfect defending.
“Once one goes, they all go. Look at Harrison – he stays in the middle and is playing like a centre-half. His work for the team was excellent.”
Everton must sign Jack Harrison permanently
Harrison has been on loan at Everton for the last two seasons. Owing to a solid 2023-24 season at Goodison Park, the 28-year-old was signed on loan again for the 2024-25 season.
The Englishman has 26 Premier League appearances to his name but has managed to score just once. While his goal output may have been low, he makes up for it with his work rate.
Everton have an option to make Harrison’s loan deal permanent at the end of the season and they should exercise it. Harrison may not become a regular starter who guarantees goals, but he is more than capable of being a versatile squad player.
With other major areas to focus on in the upcoming summer transfer window, Everton must settle their buy option for Harrison as soon as possible.
