Everton’s squad is set to undergo major surgery in the summer transfer window.
The Friedkin Group and David Moyes wanted to make a number of additions in the January window but the decision was made to keep their powder dry for the summer.
Everton’s PSR issues are set to be lifted at the end of June, allowing them to spend much more freely from July onwards.
Moyes is already eyeing £40m-rated Chris Rigg after his impressive season for Sunderland, whilst West Bromwich Albion’s Tom Fellows continues to be linked to Goodison Park.
Everton have also added centre-back David Hancko to their shortlist, which already includes Burnley defender Maxime Esteve.
So it’s clear the Toffees are desperate to sign a couple of centre-backs this summer, which makes Jarrad Branthwaite’s future very clear.

Whilst Everton are almost out of the woods PSR-wise, they aren’t in the clear just yet and may have to make one final big sale before the end of the financial year.
And, one of their most valuable assets Jarrad Branthwaite is considering leaving the Toffees after being left out of the England squad last month.
Manchester United are showing a serious interest in Branthwaite, so at this stage, all roads lead to a big-money move to Old Trafford.
Everton won’t budge on their £70m asking price, though, so INEOS will have to write a substantial cheque to bring the Friedkin’s to the negotiating table.
It appears Hancko, who has been linked with a move to Goodison over the last 24 hours, would be his replacement given that he’s also left-footed and of a very similar profile.
Esteve also matches Branthwaite’s traits.
If Everton were to make zero sales in June, then it’s likely there would be very few arrivals through the door, if any.
So, the potential sale of Branthwaite, even if it is disappointing, would allow Moyes to get his business done early and ready for pre-season.
And, considering the likes of Rigg and Esteve are being watched by a plethora of clubs in the Premier League, it’s vital the Toffees position themselves at the front of the queue, otherwise, they’re likely to miss out.
