But when the 2025/26 season kicks off, it will be all change, with Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic, but nobody is the wiser as to who will be the other left-back option for Brendan Rodgers.

You don’t expect it to be Taylor because he is set to leave when his Celtic contract expires at the end of June, and now he has lost his place to on-loan Crystal Palace star Jeffrey Schlupp.

Given that it has been well-documented that Taylor will leave on a free, there have been noises emerging about Rangers.

Kris Boyd suggested Rangers should look to sign Taylor – the 27-year-old started his youth career at Ibrox – and that topic was discussed on Go Radio.

Greg Taylor Rangers links shot down, but has a pre-contract agreement been signed?

Stephen McGinn made it clear that he simply can’t see Taylor making that daring move to Rangers because ‘the negatives outweigh the positives’.

The boyhood Celtic fan explained that Rangers need a player like him, but he simply can’t see it happening.

But McGinn thinks that, amid the Rangers noise, he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if Taylor has already signed a pre-contract agreement with a club.

“I don’t think their left-backs are good enough,” said McGinn about Rangers. “They are conceding far too many goals. I think the left-back is a problem, and they absolutely need one.

“I can understand where Kris (Boyd) is coming from, in terms of a Scotland international, he knows the league, he is a winner and has won loads of trophies. He is available on a free transfer, but I just can’t see it happening.

“I can’t see Greg Taylor seeing the positives from that. The negatives outweigh the positives.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he has already agreed a deal. You remember the Dinamo Zagreb story when it broke that he had signed there. It wouldn’t shock me at all if he has already signed a pre-contract.”

Brendan Rodgers would be ‘delighted’ to keep Taylor at Celtic

There is no doubt that there is a mixed opinion on Taylor amongst the Celtic Park faithful, but his manager has always had his corner.

Rodgers publicly defended Taylor this season when fans got excited at the prospect of Tierney returning, so they started to sing his name.

That’s why McGinn feels that Rodgers would be more than happy to see Taylor stay on board and play a certain role for him next season.

“I think Brendan Rodgers would be delighted to keep him where he is right now,” added McGinn. “Where he is almost a consistent back-up to Kieran Tierney or Jeffrey Schlupp.

“I don’t know where Brendan sees Kieran Tierney, whether he comes straight back in at left-back or what happens with Jeffrey Schlupp if Greg Taylor goes.

“But I think Brendan Rodgers is quite comfortable where he is at in the squad right now.”
