Man City are weighing up a move to re-sign Morgan Rogers after keeping tabs on his progress since his move to Aston Villa in 2024.
That is according to former Man United and Aston Villa scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that City’s scouts have been present at Villa Park this season.
Rogers, 22, left City’s academy to join Middlesbrough in search of increased first-team opportunities in 2023 and would now be open to a return to Manchester.
However, there are doubts about whether the England international would fit in with Pep Guardiola’s style of play as they continue to assess a number of targets.
Brown told Football Insider in February that City plan to make five big-name signings this summer amid concerns about a number of their first-team stars.
However, he has insisted that the incoming players must be improvements on those they are replacing, and doubts have lingered about whether Rogers fits that bill.

Man City weigh up Morgan Rogers swoop after scouts spotted
Brown told Football Insider in October that Rogers left City amid concerns about his attitude which also put rival clubs off of a move to sign him from Middlesbrough.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that City are still keeping tabs on their former player with a potential move in mind.
“Man City will know all about him,” he told Football Insider.
“I watched him play in a game for their academy a couple of years ago – and I must admit it didn’t surprise me when he was moved on.
“He went to Middlesbrough, did well there, and now he’s really found his feet at Aston Villa.
“So I have to give him a lot of credit for that, he’s worked hard and he’s improved.
“City’s scouts have been keeping tabs on him since he left, and they are considering him among their targets to improve in midfield.
“There are four or five players there who need replacing – but they’re only going to go for players who will be an upgrade on what they’ve got.
“They have doubts about whether Rogers, as good as he has been, is an upgrade for them.
“So yes they’ve been watching him, he’ll be one of their targets, but they’ll look at other options too.”

Pep Guardiola eyes big-money Hugo Larsson deal
The midfield has emerged as a key area for improvement in Guardiola’s side amid concerns about the futures of Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri and Kevin de Bruyne.
Alongside Rogers, Football Insider revealed on 6 April that Frankfurt star Hugo Larsson is among City’s targets, but would cost £50million to sign.
Larsson is under contract at the Waldstadion until 2029 and Eintracht have no need to sell him after receiving a £59million fee for Omar Marmoush in January.
City will be keen to seen Larsson against Tottenham in next week’s Europe League quarter-final clash, as the Sweden international comes up against Premier League opposition.
