Daniel Levy could soon be forced out of Tottenham as a new takeover verdict emerges after recent fan protests.
Levy has done a lot of good for Tottenham, particularly on the financial side of things, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a money-making machine.
However, the 62-year-old is an unpopular man in North London due to a belief among supporters that this money isn’t being reinvested into the squad, a claim which is hard to dispute after a recent £50million-plus setback at Tottenham.
And frustration among supporters appeared to reach a boiling point ahead of the 3-1 Premier League victory over Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (6 April).
Levy could be removed in the event of a Tottenham takeover
Postecoglou eased some of the pressure on him as his side beat Southampton, although the Australian remains at risk of being sacked by Levy.
However, it was incidents off the pitch which dominated the headlines on Sunday, as supporters gathered in the streets to protest against Levy and ENIC ahead of kick-off against the Saints.
As a result, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes any potential investor at Spurs would likely remove Levy in the event of a takeover.
“Levy just seems to ignore these protests,” King said.
“He will be thinking that he is the chairman, and as far as he is concerned, Tottenham have a wonderful stadium, and the finances are in a good position. However, the reason the supporters are demonstarting against Levy is because the club haven’t won anything since 2008.
“When you look at London clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, and West Ham have all won silverware in recent seasons. Therefore, Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Fulham is the category that Tottenham are in at the moment. As a result, I can understand why the supporters are frustrated.
“Levy cannot get away from the fact that these protests are happening. There were a considerable number of people who have taken their time to put these demonstrations together.
“These people are not happy with the way the football club is being run. Tottenham have a phenomenal support, and I think the fans must be heard. Therefore, I would think if somebody buys that football club, they will want a new regime to run it, so it could be goodbye, Mr. Levy.”
Levy is still in control at Tottenham
While Levy could be removed in the event of a takeover, it is the Spurs supremo who holds the keys to such a thing happening at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Therefore, supporters shouldn’t get too excited about the potential of new owners anytime soon.
