Brendan Rodgers had a very awkward day in Perth as he tasted defeat for the first time away to St Johnstone.
After the match he admitted to being angry while questioning the mentality of his squad after they lost 1-0 to a team that started the day eight points adrift at the bottom of the SPFL Premiership table.
Rodgers has repeatedly praised his players, highlighting their resilience in dealing with a marathon fixture list that has contained four more European fixtures and three extra League Cup ties compared to last season.
Clearly a line was crossed today resulting in his critical comments but at half-time Rodgers took the unusual step of leaving the dressing room ahead of his players.
That can only be viewed as a sign of frustration, perhaps the manager had unleashed all of his half-time anger and decided to leave the players stewing for a few minutes.
Out in the bright sunshine Rodgers looked uncomfortable passing time as he glanced around the stadium waiting for the players to return.
There was little sign of improvement in the Celtic side despite two half time substitutions.
Three more changes were made but it was only in the last 15 minute that Celtic exerted any pressure but Saints keeper Andy Fisher was a match for everything that came their way.
It will now be a long week before Saturday’s match at home to Kilmarnock with questions growing over Rodgers and his players despite their champions elect status.
