Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been tipped by former Greek international Giorgos Karagounis for a return to Celtic, having managed the Hoops from 2021 until 2023 before joining the North London side.
Postecoglou was a fan favourite during his time in Glasgow, winning over all the Celtic support after some doubts from a minority over his lack of experience managing in Europe. The Aussie proved to be a revelation, winning five domestic trophies out of six, including a domestic treble in his final season.
This made his departure to Spurs an emotional one for many Celtic fans, given everything he did at the club, with Karagounis believing this will play a huge part in a return to Celtic one day.
Karagounis said: (SpinGenie), “Ange Postecoglou did a great job with Celtic, a fantastic job. So one day I think we will see him back there.
“Having said that, at the moment he is at another great team in Tottenham and of course he’s coaching in the Premier League, so I don’t think he’ll want to go back to Scotland straight away.”
Postecoglou will certainly be welcomed back to Celtic with open arms. However, for the time being, Brendan Rodgers is Hoops boss until the end of next season, and with Celtic on the verge of a domestic treble and clear European progression this season in the Champions League, Rodgers deserves another season to improve the team further—something he has done for the most part since Ange’s departure.
Whether Ange could see himself returning to Celtic one day remains to be seen, but for now, he is Tottenham boss and will be looking to win a trophy this season, with Spurs still in the Europa League. He has said he always wins a trophy in his second season, and if he does so, securing a place in the Champions League would no doubt keep him at Tottenham longer term.
