Newcastle United did not really have to get out of second gear against Leicester City on Monday night.
Indeed, Newcastle United made it six points from two games since returning from the Carabao Cup celebrations with a rather routine victory at the King Power Stadium.
How Saudi Arabia BOUGHT The FIFA World Cup
Jacob Murphy was at the double and Harvey Barnes bagged against his former club as Newcastle beat Leicester 3-0 to move back up to fifth in the Premier League.
The result keeps Eddie Howe’s side on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League too. The top five in the Premier League table could be afforded entry into the competition, while Newcastle also boast a game in hand on many of their rivals on that front.
In truth, the away side did not really have to do much defending against the Foxes, though Sandro Tonali was keen to hail Dan Burn.

Sandro Tonali dedicates Instagram post to Dan Burn
Burn joined Newcastle for £13million in January 2022 and has been a fine servant for the club.
In fact, the defender scored what will perhaps prove to be the most iconic goal in the club’s modern history by brilliantly heading in the opener against Liverpool during the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
Still, such were Leicester’s struggles in attack, Monday’s game was not a particular standout for Burn. Newcastle dominated the first-half and while they were sloppy after the break, the hosts rarely truly threatened.
Taking to Instagram after the game, however, Tonali captioned a photo of the two: “BIG DAN BURN.”
At one point in his career, the defender may never have thought he’d be playing alongside a Scudetto-winning former AC Milan star.
Burn, of course, has got to that point on merit. Still, his career has been a remarkable story and recent events have raised his profile even further.
After scoring at Wembley and then making a long-deserved debut for the England national side, Burn took the decision to join Instagram.
Now getting plaudits from big names like Tonali, Burn is finally getting the credit he so richly deserves.
