WHAT HAPPENED?

After Newcastle’s routine 3-0 win over Leicester, Schar posted on Instagram, praising his team-mates for a “professional” performance. Schar also laid on an assist in the game, setting up Jacob Murphy.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bruce, of course, was Newcastle manager between 2019 and 2021, overseeing Premier League finishes of 13th and 12th. He was the last permanent manager before the club’s takeover, and was replaced by Eddie Howe.

WHAT CARROLL AND SCHAR SAID

Schar wrote: “Professional performance from the boys! On a plate for you @JacobMurphy95.”

Ex-Newcastle striker Carroll replied: “And Brucey benched you” along with a ‘can’t-look’ emoji.

Schar replied with a sealed lips emoji; under Bruce, he made 33 league starts across the two seasons.

WHAT NEXT?

Newcastle face Manchester United on Sunday. They are currently fifth in the Premier League, level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea. Bruce is head coach of Blackpool, who are 10th in League One.
