Kieran Trippier has dropped a major hint over his future as the Newcastle United defender celebrated an important milestone in his career.

The 34-year-old has remained a vital part of Eddie Howe‘s team at St James’ Park, albeit only making nine Premier League starts this season, and being utilised as a late substitute in 10 other games.

He has experienced a whirlwind of a career since leaving Tottenham, winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid before lifting the Carabao Cup with the Magpies after beating Arne Slot’s Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

Trippier, who could be in his final season with Newcastle, is seemingly not ready to move on, especially after playing a key role over Leicester City in a 3-0 win at the King Power Stadium on Monday, 7 April.

Taking to Instagram (8 April), Trippier wrote: “An achievement I’m very proud of, to make 600 senior appearances in my career. I’m not done yet,” followed by an old-person emoji.

The post was liked by teammates Lewis Hall, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton, as well as Aston Villa loanee Marcus Rashford and Chelsea’s wantaway winger, Joao Felix.

Eddie Howe needs veterans to oversee summer squad changes

Football Insider verdict

With his current deal running until the summer of 2026, and a summer of change ahead for the Magpies, Trippier is unlikely to be one of the figures to depart at the end of the season.

Howe will need as much experience within the squad as possible, especially if the likes of Guimaraes and Alexander Isak are to move on from Newcastle and onto new pastures once the transfer window opens.
Kieran Trippier’s clubs    Years spent with club
Newcastle United    2022-Current
Atletico Madrid    2019-2022
Tottenham    2015-2019
Burnley    2011-2015 (incl. loan deal)
Barnsley    2010-2011 (loans)

Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento, and Nick Pope are all being linked with moves away, and if Howe is to keep his team moving forward, he will need plenty of support during the summer.

Of course, qualifying for the Champions League again would help draw plenty of high-profile names to St James’ Park, which will be vital during the summer if the aforementioned names are to depart.

Howe, who is already being tipped to replace Thomas Tuchel as England boss, will be coming to a crossroads and will need to make some important decisions over huge players so

on.
