Finding it difficult to get the best out of Gibbs-White, Wolves reluctantly agreed for him to join the Tricky Trees two-and-a-half years ago.
Gibbs-White completed a £25 million transfer to Nottingham Forest in August 2022 and became one of Evangelos Marinakis’ first key signings.
Despite the disappointment at the time though, Nottingham Forest’s gain could also be Wolves’ thanks to some impeccable foresight.

Nottingham Forest braced to pay Morgan Gibbs-White clause
Enjoying such a great breakthrough at the City Ground, Gibbs-White has been linked with replacing Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City.
It has been widely reported that Wolves included a sell-on clause into Gibbs-White’s transfer.
This profit-based clause means Forest will owe Wolves 10 per cent of any profit they earn from selling the attacking midfielder in the future. Forest paid £35 million for Gibbs-White following their successful fight against relegation in his first season.
Rock-bottom of the Premier League after 15 games into the 2022-23 season, the Tricky Trees were a world away from European football.
That isn’t the case this time out, though. Nuno Espirito Santo is doing an excellent job with Forest third in the table, four points above Chelsea, with just seven games to play.
As a result of some savvy negotiations, and Forest’s incredible form this campaign, Molineux News understands that Wolves will receive £1.5 million from Marinakis if, and when, the Tricky Trees qualify for European football.
The clause isn’t limited to the Champions League either — the sum applies to all European competitions — for the duration of Gibbs-White’s stay.
Solid negotiations
Even though Gibbs-White’s Molineux departure was a bitter blow at the time, Wolves will probably feel content with how it has turned out.
Very few have ever doubted the Englishman’s ability, and that is proven by Pep Guardiola’s admiration and willingness to bring him to the Etihad, but the Midlands obviously wasn’t the right fit for the 25-year-old.
Nevertheless, the club have financially benefited, and looks to continue reaping those rewards, and that’s the next best thing anyone can hope for once a player has his heart set on a move away.
