Neal Maupay is a very unpopular figure among the Everton fanbase, and he has now opened up on his exit from the club.
Maupay joined Everton from Brighton in the summer of 2022, having performed well for the Seagulls and Brentford over the years, but it was a different story on Merseyside.

The striker managed just one goal in 32 games for Everton, with his attitude also causing problems at Goodison Park, and he has subsequently left on loan spells to Brentford and Marseille.
Maupay since made himself a villain with comments attacking the club, and he has now explained why he chose to depart.
Maupay blames Sean Dyche for Everton failure
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT (10 April), Maupay revealed that Sean Dyche’s tactics at Everton were a big factor in his failure at Goodison Park.
“I think pretty much everything, to be honest with you,” he stated when asked what went wrong.
“The club wasn’t in the right place in terms of the manager because we changed the manager that season. I think the way we were playing didn’t fit my game.

“If you try to play long ball football and put crosses into a player like me, that doesn’t match my characteristics, so it won’t work. I think sometimes it just doesn’t work out. You never know before you join a club or a manager, but it’s part of football.”
Maupay explains decision to join Marseille
Maupay decided to join French side Olympique Marseille in the summer, and he has now explained why he traded Everton for the Ligue 1 giants.
“There are plenty of reasons why I came here, but I think the first one is that Marseille are the biggest club in France, with the most fans and the best atmosphere, even in Europe,” he added.
“For me, it was really easy to make that decision. I knew Roberto De Zerbi from his time at Brighton and in England, so those two reasons made me say yes straight away.”
Maupay was clearly not a fan of Everton during his time there, and never connected with the fanbase at Goodison.
He has scored just four times in 23 appearances for Marseille, who are second in Ligue 1, but he clearly believes he is enjoying his football a lot more under De Zerbi than Dyche.
There is an obligation to buy in Maupay’s loan contract at Marseille, and both he and Everton will be glad to see the back of each other.
Maupay scored 33 Premier League goals in 160 games with Brentford, Brighton and Everton, but will be playing European football with Marseille next season.
