Newcastle injury blow hits even harder after ‘superb’ display against Man United already this season

Newcastle United are aiming to do the double over Manchester United when they meet on Sunday afternoon.
After a comfortable 3-0 victory over Leicester City, Newcastle United have put themselves firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

Especially as Arsenal’s Champions League win on Tuesday evening confirmed there will be five Champions League qualification spots up for grabs in the Premier League.
Newcastle have already qualified for Europe, but returning to the Champions League will be a top priority. Beating Manchester United on Sunday will put the Magpies in an incredibly strong position.

Lewis Hall was ‘superb’ against Man United this season
In the final game of 2024, Newcastle United beat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford to end the year on a high.
Ruben Amorim piled praise on Newcastle after the Magpies comfortably beat his side, with Alexander Isak and Joelinton scoring the goals within the opening 20 minutes.
In the reverse fixture, Lewis Hall made a ‘superb’ assist against Manchester United when he set up Isak for the opener.
The 20-year-old brilliantly controlled a diagonal pass before playing a pinpoint first-time cross into Isak in the six-yard box.
Howe has compared Lewis Hall to Luke Shaw because of his attacking playstyle, and but it was the Newcastle star who came out on top in December.
Lewis Hall injury update at Newcastle United
Just a few days before the Carabao Cup final, it was confirmed that Hall suffered a season-ending injury.
Newcastle’s record without Hall is poor, but Howe was forced to find a way to cope without him. Hall missed the Carabao Cup but players still celebrated with him on FaceTime as he continued his recovery from surgery.
It has unfortunately been confirmed that Hall won’t play again this season, but the young defender should return to full fitness for Newcastle’s pre-season plans.

Newcastle’s 2025 pre-season tour will take place in South Korea and Singapore and Lewis Hall will likely make his return there before building up fitness for the new season.
In the meantime, it is Tino Livramento who has impressed at left-back in Hall’s absence. On Sunday, Livramento is expected to keep his spot on the left to face Manchester United.
