It has long been claimed that Newcastle United will sign Burnley’s James Trafford this summer, but while it has been reported that the deal was done, it has since been revealed that those reports were very premature.
With no such deal in place, Newcastle would be crazy to end their search for a new stopper until a deal is done, and it seems that the Magpies are still on the hunt.
Indeed, Newcastle were once again linked with Aaron Ramsdale who is expected to be available again this summer after being relegated with Southampton.
Football Insider, however, have now added a new name into the mix in the form of Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana from French club Angers.

The report claims that Newcastle are one of a few Premier League clubs monitoring the 24-year-old who currently sits atop the charts in Europe’s top five leagues for post-shot expected goals (PSxG).
Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford are also keen and there’s also believed to be interest from around Europe, too.
Angers signed the Ivory Coast international from Ligue 1 rivals Le Havre in 2022 and it is expected he could leave Angers for around £15 million this summer.
Newcastle could save themselves £5 million this summer
If Newcastle could bring in Fofana for that price it’s a saving of £5 million on what we’re expected to pay for James Trafford.
Trafford is a couple of years younger and has Premier League experience, so paying that extra £5 million isn’t the end of the world, but with PSR being what it is, Newcastle should be looking to make savings wherever they can.
The big question is, was this just a fluke season for Fofana or a sign of things to come? Also, given the source of the story, we’re keeping those pinches of salt to hand.
