Christopher Jullien Names Natural Leader To Succeed Callum McGregor | Latest Celtic News

Former Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has hailed Cameron Carter-Vickers, having worked alongside him during the 2021/22 season.

Jullien was unable to displace Carter-Vickers from the starting XI during that season; however, that hasn’t stopped the Frenchman from paying tribute to the US defender.

Carter-Vickers, who joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 during a period of instability, proved to be one of the key building blocks for Ange Postecoglou at the club. Jullien struggled to break into the squad, with Carter-Vickers forming a formidable partnership alongside Carl Starfelt at the time.

Despite all that Carter-Vickers has already achieved in his Celtic career, Jullien believes he has the potential to take his game to the next level in the coming years.

He said: (TCW), “Wow, Cam was just different.

“He is a strong guy and efficient in everything that he does – no fancy stuff! He is just a perfect defender. There were some people who would say, ‘Maybe he is a little bit small,’ but he is good at headers and can jump, which is what is best for a defender.”

“I am really happy for him, as he is a good guy, and I still speak to him sometimes. He is a good leader on the pitch, but, of course, Callum (McGregor) is the leader, and the first leader that comes to my mind.

“I have no doubt that Cam can take the captain’s role for the team, no doubt about it. I think he deserves this.”

Jullien is as humble as they come, and in a classy tribute to Carter-Vickers, the French defender couldn’t help but show respect for the American’s unbelievable impact and consistency.

It’s clear that Celtic have a leader in the dressing room for years to come, and if Carter-Vickers aspires to become Hoops captain one day when Callum McGregor eventually retires, that opportunity will be there for him.

However, that won’t be anytime soon, with McGregor showing no signs of slowing down.
