Unfortunately, Shearer’s time as manager didn’t go so well, but he answered the call when Newcastle needed him most.

At St James’ Park, Shearer played some of his best football under Sir Bobby Robson and Kenny Dalglish, even if he fell just short of winning a league title.
In a recent interview with Optus Sport, Shearer named the latter as the “funniest” manager he had ever worked under.
“Believe it or not, the one that maybe people didn’t understand had a great sense of humour was Kenny Dalglish,” Shearer said.
“Because he was a player, he sort of understood and knew the dressing room but he had such a dry sense of humour.
“Believe it or not he really is one of the funniest guys and always one to take the mick out of you.”

Dalglish was disappointed by his time at Newcastle having left the club without ending their wait for a trophy.
The Scottish manager managed the Magpies between 1997 and 1998 – joining Newcastle just a year after Shearer had signed in 1996.
Shearer won the Premier League under Dalglish during his time at Blackburn, and his record under his management is astounding.
In 162 matches under Dalglish’s management, Shearer scored 110 goals and provided 30 assists. He only scored more under Sir Bobby Robson with 117 goals in 218 appearances.
