Newcastle United fans have found one big flaw to signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves

Newcastle United fans have a concern amid claims that the Magpies want to sign Matheus Cunha this summer.
Cunha is expected to leave Wolves when the summer transfer window opens, with the attacker boasting a £62.5million release clause in his contract.

That has alerted the Magpies, with Newcastle making Cunha one of their top targets.
The 25-year-old is a very exciting option for Newcastle United. Despite his disciplinary issues, he is playing very well for Wolves this season, while his versatility will massively appeal to Eddie Howe.
Cunha can play in multiple different positions, although some supporters are unsure about what his role would be at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United fans react to Matheus Cunha interest
Following claims that Newcastle are eager to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves, a lot of fans have given their verdict on X.
In the eyes of many Newcastle United fans, he is an excellent player who perhaps would not fit in to Eddie Howe’s starting XI.
“Cunha is a very good player, but where will he play? He won’t want to be a backup for Isak and we play without attacking midfielders,” pondered this Toon fan.

A second supporter added: “Cunha would be a class signing, although I’m not totally sure where/how we’d play him. He won’t come to sit on the bench behind Isak. Whatever happens though, we cannot go through another transfer window without bringing a right forward/midfielder in!”
“Why? We don’t play with a CAM,” posted another member of the Toon Army.
This Newcastle United fan wrote: “Cunha is quality but his attitude seems questionable, he’s also not a right winger so he doesn’t help that, we don’t play with a 10 and he’s probably not defensive enough to replace Joelinton. He also isn’t a natural CF. £62.5m would be a bit questionable for someone we don’t need.”
“Where would Cunha play?” asked this fan.
Finally, this Newcastle supporter summed up the situation, writing: “Cunha is obviously class but I just don’t see it. Where’s he playing? We aren’t blowing our budget on a player that doesn’t fit. Has to be a RW for the big signing.”
Versatility makes Cunha perfect for Newcastle United
Concern from fans is understandable. On the face of it, it is unclear where Cunha would fit in at Newcastle United right now.
As a striker, he is not going to play ahead of Alexander Isak.
As a winger, he is better on the left than the right. On that side of the pitch, Howe already has Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.
As a centre-midfielder, it is difficult to see how he could fulfil Joelinton’s role in the side. That is the only player he could feasibly replace in the midfield three, as Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are untouchable.
Cunha can also play as an attacking midfielder, which is something that Newcastle do not use.
But that is not to say they will not use one in the future. Cunha would give the Magpies a different option, and playing him centrally in tight games where Newcastle are struggling to break down a stubborn defence would give Howe’s side another dimension.
As a striker, he can be that top level cover for Isak that Newcastle need. The Magpies need to bring in a striker this summer, but that will be very difficult. Liam Delap is unlikely to join Newcastle, as he wants to be first choice. However, that is not going to happen as long as Isak is at the club.
That is why Cunha could be a smart signing. He has the versatility to provide cover for Isak when called upon, just like Anthony Gordon.
But Cunha also has the ability to thrive in multiple positions, and is a player who could become even better thanks to Eddie Howe’s coaching.
