Paul Merson does not think Manchester United have what it takes to beat Newcastle United.
The two sides meet at St James’ Park on Sunday, as Newcastle United continue their quest to qualify for the Champions League.
With eight games to go, the Magpies are in a strong position. That position became even stronger during the week when it was announced that the Premier League will get five Champions League places next season.
That is a boost for Eddie Howe, who will be eager for his side to continue riding this wave of momentum after four wins in a row.

Paul Merson predicts Newcastle vs Manchester United
While Ruben Amorim will be eager to put an end to Newcastle’s strong run of form, former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson does not think the Red Devils are up to the task.
As part of his Premier League predictions for Sportskeeda, Merson has backed Newcastle to beat Manchester United on Sunday.
“Manchester United will frustrate Newcastle, but I still think the Magpies will win this game,” he said.
“Even though United have shown signs of improvement under Ruben Amorim, I don’t think they have it in them to get a win here.
“The race for top four is getting tighter and tighter, meaning Newcastle cannot afford to slip up. Eddie Howe has done enough already in my opinion. Winning that cup was everything for this club. Now getting a top-five finish would be the icing on the cake and they are so nearly there as well!
“If they win this game and get another three points in their game in hand, I think they will finish in the top five.”

Who Newcastle United’s Champions League rivals are playing this weekend
Newcastle United’s closest Champions League rivals are all in action before them this weekend, with Eddie Howe’s side not playing until 4:30pm on Sunday.
Manchester City are first up on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions entertaining Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium in the 12:30pm game. They will be expected to win that game.
Third-placed Nottingham Forest are also in action on Saturday, taking on Everton at home at 3pm. At the same time, Aston Villa face Southampton, whose relegation was confirmed last weekend.
On Sunday, Chelsea are at home to Ipswich Town. They will be massive favourites for that game, despite losing the reverse fixture at Portman Road.
By the time Newcastle play on Sunday, they could very easily be outside the top five. However, Champions League qualification is still very much in their hands.
