Tottenham Star Has Run His Race at the Club After Poor Performance vs Frankfurt
Tottenham Hotspur will head to Germany needing to beat Eintracht Frankfurt after being held to a 1-1 draw by the Bundesliga club in north London on Thursday night. An uphill battle awaits Ange Postecoglou’s men next week.
The home side were given a nightmare start as Hugo Ekitike – linked with a move to the Premier League – fired in an early strike to send the German side into the lead. Ekitike picked the ball up on the left flank before cutting inside and curling into the far corner of the net, past Guglielmo Vicario.
It didn’t take too long for the hosts to level the game up, as Pedro Porro marked his return to the line-up with a clever backheel finish after a James Maddison delivery into the penalty area. One man had a night to forget, despite a slightly improved second-half.
Son Heung-min Struggles to Make a Difference vs Frankfurt
A nightmare opening 45 minutes before slight improvement
Heung-min Son
One man who has stuck with Spurs through thick and thin is captain Son Heung-min. The South Korean has been tremendous since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, but has seen his form fall off a cliff this term.
While he had an improved showing in the second period against Frankfurt, forcing the goalkeeper into a smart save and creating opportunities for others, the opening 45 minutes displayed the shortcomings of the winger in 2025.

Young loanee Mathys Tel was sitting on the substitutes’ bench, while watching his skipper struggling to get involved in the match. Son was one of the most high-intensity players around at his peak, but those years look to be a distant memory.
Per SofaScore, Sonny lost possession of the ball 12 times, while completing none of his attempted dribbles. He did manage to provide two key passes, showing there are still glimpses of his technical quality. However, it’s time for Postecoglou to give Tel a few games in his preferred left-wing role to benefit himself and Son.

Spurs Fans Want Postecoglou to Make Son Decision
‘You can’t say 2025 Son is better than Tel’

Tottenham supporters were quick to show their frustration with Son’s performance on social media, with one saying: “Heung Min Son would’ve been dropped to the bench by now if he played for any other big club in the world. I’m not hating him, but these performances lately have been below average.”
Others were just in disbelief that the manager was persisting with the wide player without giving others an opportunity in the starting XI. One supporter posted: “Heung Min Son, my friend, it’s time to go,” before another added: “Truly don’t understand why Son plays every week when he’s putting in these performances.”
The options for Postecoglou may be thin on the ground, with Wilson Odobert having recent injury issues. However, possible alternatives to the struggling captain were provided, as one Spurs supporter claimed: “Rather Spence left-wing than Son. Offering nothing,” and another pointed out: “You can’t say 2025 Son is better than Tel.”
