Bruno Guimaraes has perfect response after Jamie Carragher’s Newcastle sneer

Bruno Guimaraes believes Newcastle United can one day win the Premier League.
Fourth-placed Newcastle are currently 19 points behind champions Liverpool, but the gap has narrowed a little and only Arne Slot’s side have won more league games than the Magpies this season. For context, Newcastle finished 31 points off title winners Manchester City during an injury-disrupted campaign last year.
Although Newcastle still have a lot of work to do to bridge the divide, former Magpies striker Craig Bellamy even claimed that Bruno could ‘go on and win’ the title in the next year or so. In response, a chuckling Jamie Carragher queried whether Bruno really could do so with Newcastle, but even the Liverpool legend has since suggested that there is ‘no reason’ why the black-and-whites can’t push the Reds, Arsenal or Manchester City next season
Carragher wrote that Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph could prove a ‘possible catalyst to propel them to greater heights’, after the black-and-whites ended a 70-year wait to win a major domestic trophy, and Bruno has his sights set on even bigger prizes in the years to come.
“I would love to win the Premier League,” the Newcastle captain told Sky Sports. “Liverpool are at the top and we beat them, but we know that the league is so complex. Many things can happen. There is never an easy game, but I believe that we can do it someday.”
Bruno has never lacked belief, of course. Newcastle were in deep relegation trouble when Bruno declared that ‘we’re going to be a big power in world football’ at his unveiling press conference and, ahead of the Carabao Cup final, the Brazil international stressed his side could beat holders Liverpool after seeing the ‘doubters’ elsewhere.
“We became legends,” he reflected. “We made some steps that some good players have not achieved here. [Alan] Shearer was the most famous player for the club and, unfortunately, he did not win something for the club and we got it so it was very special, but the message now is we want more.
“It was a good first step, but we are not satisfied just with the Carabao Cup. We want more. We want to finish in the top five to go to the Champions League again next season, but this day will be with me forever because I looked at the crowd and everyone was crying. It was so beautiful.”
