A journalist has called out ‘ill-informed punters’ as he raised an interesting point about Marcus Rashford following his latest showing for Aston Villa.
Villa beat Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s on Saturday but, despite the scoreline, it was a hard-fought victory.
Unai Emery’s side scored three late goals to secure a big Premier League win as they push for Champions League qualification.
Rashford started in attack but failed to influence the game and was eventually replaced by Ollie Watkins, who made an instant impact, opening the scoring in the 73rd minute.
After Rashford departed, Villa scored three goals without reply – with Donyell Malen and John McGinn also getting on the score-sheet.
The star forward has made 14 appearances across all competitions since signing on loan from Manchester United during the January transfer window.

He has scored three goals for Villa, which includes a brace against Championship side Preston in the FA Cup.
in the league, Rashford has bagged just one goal in eight games for Villa.
His Villa form was flagged by Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst, who called out ‘ill-informed punters’.
On X, he wrote: “Rashford goes off for Watkins at 0-0, Watkins scores six minutes later and Villa win 3-0. Rashford has been better for Villa but his performances have been overstated by a lot of ill-informed punters. He could still turn out to be a superb signing but has three goals in 14 games.”
Rashford played 24 games for Man United this season before being sent out on loan to Villa.
His future remains up in the air, with Villa having an option to make the switch a permanent deal for £40 million.
Long-time admirers Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old and have renewed contact over a transfer.
Speaking before his team’s victory over the Saints, Emery shared his thoughts on Rashford and opened up about his behaviour.
“He is being demanding on himself and with everything we want to work on with him, with the team,” he said. “He is playing free, he feels comfortable and this is the most important thing.”

Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United in January.
Marcus Rashford reportedly has a transfer agreement with Manchester United ahead of the summer window.
After falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, Rashford left Old Trafford for Aston Villa on loan during the January transfer window.
Since moving to Villa Park to work under Unai Emery, the 27-year-old has showed glimpses of his old self.
So far, Rashford has scored two goals and assisted four in 10 matches across all competitions.
Due to his good form, it has been rumoured that Villa could look to make Rashford’s loan deal into a permanent transfer come the summer window.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Rashford can join Villa for £40 million in the summer but it has been suggested that he could also join other clubs for a similar fee.
This could ruin Villa’s plans as they might have to engage in a bidding war with other interested parties.
The report stated: “A striker is one of United’s priorities in the transfer market this summer, and they will try to fund a deal by offloading Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
“Rashford has a £40m option in his loan deal at Aston Villa, and it’s understood he could join other clubs for a similar fee.”

After Rashford scored twice against Preston North End in the FA Cup over the weekend, Villa boss Emery was asked whether a decision has been made regarding the forward’s future at the club.
He replied: “Not yet. The most important thing is the challenge now and this afternoon, recovering and then preparing for the match against Brighton tomorrow.
“Still there are a lot of matches to play. If we are in the Champions League, if we are in the Europa League, if we are in the European Conference League or not in Europe or winning a trophy, it is completely different.”
Emery added: “A decision about each individual players… it is to get the best of them and the best of us. We don’t want to waste time thinking about it.”
Villa are back in Premier League action on Wednesday night when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX.

French media make their feelings clear on Marcus Rashford following Aston Villa’s damaging defeat to PSG
The French media have spoken out following the massive Champions League clash.
The French media have spoken out to give their verdict on Marcus Rashford following Aston Villa’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
On Wednesday night, Aston Villa suffered a brutal 3-1 loss to French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the Parcs des Prices in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
The result significantly dents Unai Emery’s hopes of taking Villa to the semi-finals, as they will have to overcome the two goal deficit in the second leg at Villa Park next week.
But it’s clear that the French media aren’t particularly concerned about their side’s chances of progressing, as their reports from the match have given a clear verdict on winger Rashford and several other Villa stars.
After every PSG match, popular French outlet L’Equipe upload player ratings for both sides in the game which have became notorious online for their brutal honesty.
And this honesty was clearly on display following Wednesday’s Champion League action, as the newspaper handed savage 3/10 scores to two Villa stars.
The French outlet singled out Jacob Ramsey and Matty Cash were labelled as the worst players on the pitch, giving them lower ratings than anybody else in the game.
Writing about Cash’s performance, L’Equipe said: “The right-back had clearly been targeted as the weak point in Villa’s defence. And rightly so. Struggling from kickoff until his exit, he was unable to win a duel and showed signs of nervousness with the ball.”
The newspaper clearly were also unimpressed by Rashford in the match, giving him a rating of 4/10 after he failed to impress despite replacing Oliie Watkins in the starting lineup.

France’s 90min went a step further, handing the former Manchester United star a 3/10 rating, writing: “Unavailable for 25 minutes, the English striker had a strange start. His team suffered waves of Parisian attacks, his contribution was less.
“Initially somewhat clumsy, he managed several important technical moves. His second half was not very noticeable, far from it, the English striker was isolated and not very successful in his choices with the ball at his feet.”
Meanwhile, Footmercato gave Rashford a 4.5/10, saying Rashford had a ‘very difficult’ match in Paris.
