A Treble-winning campaign is in sights for Celtic, with the Hoops closing in on the Scottish Premiership title and Scottish Cup having already won the League Cup this season.
It’s been another remarkable season for Brendan Rodgers‘ side and although performances haven’t been that great in the past few weeks, there’s been some stand out players.
But, Sofascore have sprung a surprise after the Celtic first-team star with the highest average rating was somebody that nobody expected.
Liam Scales has the highest average rating of any Celtic player this season
Liam Scales is a man who splits the fanbase down the middle.
Scales wears his heart on his sleeve and the Republic of Ireland international will do anything for the club.
He isn’t at the level of his teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers, admittedly, but he does sit number one for highest average rating with a score of 7.5.
Pat Bonner has defended Scales on numerous occasions and he now only has further evidence to back this up.
Following closely behind Scales is much-loved Alistair Johnston, who has been near-fautless and has an average rating of 7.47. Captain fantastic Callum McGregor is third with a rating of 7.44 and level with defender Auston Trusty before record-signing Arne Engels rounds off the top five with a rating of 7.41
Liam Scales will fight for his future
Summer is expected to be a busy one at Celtic Park, with many believing the squad needs some sort of overhaul.
Brendan Rodgers has hinted at a summer revamp and as much as the attacking department needs bolstering, defence will still be a priority.
Greg Taylor’s expected departure means another left-back alongside Kieran Tierney will need to be signed and there is every chance another centre-back could come in.
Naturally, Scales is the first player likely to be at risk – although he has been preferred to Maik Nawrocki in his spell at the club.
However, one thing for sure is that Scales will not be willing to end his time with the Bhoys and do everything he can to remain in the first-team set-up.
