Eddie Howe was hospitalised on Friday night and missed Newcastle’s Premier League fixture against Manchester United, with no timescale set on his return to the dugout
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is on the mend after a health scare landed him in hospital on Friday night (April 11), but the club is prioritising his well-being as he starts his recovery journey.
Howe spent the weekend under medical care and will miss the upcoming match against Manchester United. It’s unclear when he’ll return to training, with Crystal Palace set to visit St James’ Park on Wednesday.
A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday morning, with Jason Tindall stepping in to handle media duties ahead of the midweek game.

Despite Howe’s absence, Newcastle’s top brass are confident that Tindall, along with Graeme Jones, Stephen Purchess, and Simon Weatherstone, will maintain high standards. Tindall revealed he’s been in regular contact with Howe leading up to the Manchester United clash.
On Saturday night, the club released a statement saying: “He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care.”, reports the Express.
“Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course.
“Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead the team at St. James’ Park on Sunday, supported by the club’s first team staff.”
During his presser, Tindall was full of admiration for Howe’s commitment, saying: “He’s probably got a live feed there now, his attention to detail – he’s top, and that’s why he’s one of the best managers that’s out there.”
Howe’s unexpected dash to the hospital is reportedly just a precautionary measure, with Newcastle’s medics on the ball addressing any niggles about their gaffer’s wellbeing. The Toon boss is now awaiting the thumbs up from further tests before he jumps back into the Premier League fray.
With Howe possibly out of action, it seems Tindall could be stepping up for the next game against Crystal Palace. Ready to take charge, he’s gearing up to mastermind the pre-match strategy against the Eagles.
