With Taylor’s current deal set to expire in the summer, his insight on the situation comes at an intriguing time. Taylor, who has been a key player for the Hoops over the last six seasons, has been the subject of speculation surrounding his long-term future at the club.

As Celtic prepare for the return of Kieran Tierney, questions over the left-back position and the impact on Taylor’s role in the squad have been raised.

However, Forrest praised Taylor’s dedication and growth since joining Celtic in 2019.

He said: (RecordSport), “It’s a personal decision, but in the time he’s been here Greg has been unreal.

“When he first came in, he maybe wasn’t in the team but he’s played near enough every game for the last three and a half, four seasons. So it’s credit to him.

“It’s up to him at the end of the day. I think everyone within the club, we know how much influence he has in the changing room and on the training pitch every day.

“So we’d all be desperate for him to stay. Everyone knows that KT’s coming back as well, so he might be thinking about that.

“I’ve seen it before. At this type of club, you’re always signing players. There’s always going to be competition for places and it feels as though some people can thrive off that as well.

“It’s a personal decision for Greg and everyone close to him, it’s up to him what he does.

“He can still play games [when Tierney returns], but I’m not in Greg’s situation. I don’t know maybe what he’s got, if he’s got other teams or if he’s got personal ambition somewhere else.

“I’m not sure, but as I said if he does sign here, then we’ll all be delighted because we know what we’ve got as a player.”

Forrest’s comments show just how much the club values Taylor and everything he’s brought to the team. Now, it’s up to Taylor to decide what’s next.

Supporters will be hoping he stays at Celtic, but we’ll have to wait and see. With more competition for places and the chance of new opportunities elsewhere, Taylor has a big decision to make ahead of a busy summer for Celtic.
