Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou continues to find his future under question in North London, with a 4-2 defeat to lowly Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend the latest blow for the Aussie.
Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League table with just six matches left to play this season, now only two points above Wolves and 16 points above the relegation zone. More importantly, Tottenham Hotspur are a huge 17 points away from the top six.
Postecoglou could still lift a trophy this year thanks to the side’s continued Europa League involvement, but even that silverware will not wipe away what has been a thoroughly underwhelming campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Reacting to the 4-2 loss, which came about as a result of sloppy mistakes, the Spurs head coach said: “Like I said, it’s not like the players are doing it on purpose, so you have an understanding that that’s the unfortunate things that sometimes happen in a game of football.
“Probably be more frustrated if it was something that we did from a tactical perspective or organisational perspective, but they’re individual errors, you know, the players don’t mean to do it and, especially Lucas and Romero, I mean they’re two fantastic footballers and what’s important now for both of them is that they recover and we focus on the next game.”
The defeat to Wolves was just the latest result to leave a bitter taste in the mouth for the London outfit this term and, while Daniel Levy has remained patient with Postecoglou this season in the face of an injury riddled squad, it is widely reported that the club is looking at potential replacements ahead of the summer.
Fabrizio Romano names two Spurs manager candidates
In Monday’s edition of the GiveMeSport newsletter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano was asked for the latest on who could replace Postecoglou. He said: “I’m still hearing about Iraola and Silva as two concrete options. For Motta, no contacts at this stage.”
Andoni Iraola is currently in charge of AFC Bournemouth and enjoying a good season on the south coast with his Cherries side performing above expectations and playing attractive football. Meanwhile, Thiago Motta is currently without a club, having most recently been in charge of Serie A titans Juventus.
Iraola has been linked with the Spurs role for a number of weeks and confronted his future at the Vitality Stadium recently. He said: “I want to do my job the best I can. I don’t know how far we can [go], where we will finish. I want to do my job the best I can. If I don’t do the job very well, they will find someone else. It’s like this in every job.
“I’m really happy here. We have a great opportunity to make the semi-finals [of the FA Cup] for the first time in history. That would be amazing for me personally, and for the club, to achieve new heights.
“But we also know that we have to be realistic. There are better teams than us. We have to fight against teams that are very good. We will try to give the best level we have. I don’t know how far we are going to go.”
