Pape Matar Sarr has admitted that one of his Tottenham teammates played a very important role in helping him settle at the club, describing him as a ‘big brother’.
While there has been a lot of concern among Spurs fans about Heung-min Son’s reduced effectiveness this season, no one at the club doubts the South Korean’s leadership qualities.
Since getting the armband in 2023, the 32-year-old has proven to be an empathetic leader and is always seen encouraging his younger teammates to give their best.
His leadership has been vital to this young Tottenham squad this season, particularly given that other senior men such as Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario have spent extended periods on the treatment table.
Pape Sarr makes Heung-min Son admission
Sarr has now become the latest Tottenham man to lavish praise on Son for the role he has played in helping him feel at home at the club.
The midfielder admitted that the Spurs captain is like a ‘big brother’ to him and many of the younger players in the squad.
Sarr told D Sports: “Sonny is a big brother to me. Since I arrived at Tottenham, he has supported me a lot. My integration was not easy, but he was there for me, put me at ease, and helped me adapt.
Tottenham may struggle to replace Son’s leadership
With the forward having just one year left on his contract, rumours over recent months have indicated that Son’s 10-year stay at Spurs could come to an end this summer.
Some sources indicate that Tottenham have identified Mathys Tel as Son’s long-term successor on the left, but replacing the South Korean’s leadership will be very difficult and it is something Ange Postecoglou’s men have to plan for ahead of the summer.
