While it may sound superficial, former and current players will tell you just how impactful the noise in the stands can be in either motivating them or striking fear into the opposition. While it isn’t always the case, there is logic to thinking that the more ’12th men’ there are, the better. The bottom of our list sees some rich footballing heritage as Brazil’s most popular team, Flamengo, kick things off. While the quality of the squad may pale in comparison to some of the sides above them, more than 54,000 continue to pack out Maracana, which AI voted as the most famous stadium in the world. They are followed by one of the five Premier League teams included on this list, Arsenal. Having finished as runners-up in three straight Premier League campaigns, 56,000 faithful fans continue showing up to support the Gunners, patiently waiting to get their hands on the title again.
Next up is just one of two teams who didn’t even spend the 2024/25 campaign in the top flight of their country and that’s Hamburger SV. The German side competed in the 2. Bundesliga, but over 56,000 fans turned up regularly to watch them finish second and earn a spot back in the Bundesliga next season.
Despite losing Omar Marmoush midway through the campaign, over 57,000 fans continued to watch Eintracht Frankfurt this year, while Benfica round out the bottom five, with 58,000 supporters turning up every week.

Atletico Madrid, West Ham United, VfB Stuttgart, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool
Heading to Spain for the first time for number 15, Atletico Madrid are the next to make an appearance. Diego Simeone’s men finished third in La Liga this season, but maintained their strong following, with nearly 59,000 cheering them on every week.
Just 439 supporters separate 14th from 12th, and all three teams involved in the discussion happen to have tasted success in Europe in recent years. West Ham United, VfB Stuttgart, and Tottenham Hotspur are next, with 59,286, 59,438 and 59,725 fans respectively.
In 11th is the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool. Over 60,000 turned up to Anfield on a regular basis as the club navigated life without Jurgen Klopp. Arne Slot arrived and took them straight to the top of English football and they had plenty cheering them on as he did so.

Schalke 04, AS Roma, Marseille, AC Milan, Real Madrid
We enter the top 10 with the second and last team to play outside of a top division this year. Schalke 04 have spent the last two years outside of the Bundesliga, but that hasn’t deterred fans from showing their support. Next up is the closest thing to an old colosseum thanks to the Stadio Olimpico. While there may not be the same violence that the Italian capital used to see in arenas during the Roman Empire, Roma fans still bring the same fighting spirit to every game as they continue to wait for their side to end their Serie A title drought.
Roberto de Zerbi’s Marseille follows, known for having an incredibly intense fanbase, with seven-time European champions, AC Milan following them. The San Siro can fill more than the 66,984 that the Rossoneri average, but the fact that the red and blacks are not the same force they once were may have something to do with why they don’t crack the top five.
With the Santiago Bernabeu undergoing construction, Real Madrid’s attendance has taken a slight knock from what it ordinarily would be. Still, 68,000 showed up every week to witness Los Blancos during Kylian Mbappe’s first season in Spain. They miss out on the top five by just 412 fans.

Just making it into the top five is Inter Milan, who prove that the legendary San Siro is capable of holding even more, as they welcome close to 3,000 more supporters every game when they are hosting, as opposed to when their local rivals are at home. Our second trip to South America takes us to the Estadio Mas Monumental, where Argentinian giants River Plate cram in an average of 71,775 every time they are at home.
Things may not be going well across the board for Manchester United of late, but through thick and thin, their supporters are turning up at the Theatre of Dreams to show their support for Ruben Amorim’s side. How long Old Trafford will be standing for remains to be seen amid discussions of a brand-new stadium.
The top two sees yet another return to Germany, with the country’s most dominant team, Bayern Munich, falling short in second. They are bested by the only club to average over 80,000 fans, and it is none other than the yellow wall itself, Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund are known for having one of the best atmospheres in Europe, and when you combine passionate fans with the sheer volume that Signal Iduna Park can hold, it is no wonder why it has such a reputation.
