A RANGERS fan who threw a bottle on the pitch during an Old Firm game has been fined £320.

David Andrews, 22, launched the bottle of Buckfast from his seat at Ibrox Stadium on April 7 2024.

The Gers hosted the Hoops in a match that day which ended in a 3-3 draw.

The bottle was thrown after Matt O’Reilly netted a penalty to double Celtic‘s lead after 34 minutes.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the missile narrowly avoided the now ex-Hoops midfielder with it landing near his feet.

Andrews, of the city‘s Springburn, left the stadium at half time but was later pointed out and reported by his fellow supporters.

Andrews pled guilty to culpably and recklessly throwing the glass bottle “with complete indifference to the consequences.”

The charge says that the throw was towards the direction of Celtic players all to the danger of the players on the filed of play.

Andrews was banned from football matches for one year on top of the financial penalty imposed by Sheriff Anthony Deutsch.

He says it helps keep things in perspective – and he admits it helped him at times with the all-consuming nature of life in Glasgow.

He said: “Respectfully, the pressures of playing at Celtic are for most people unimaginable.

“It is not easy to win every game of football regardless of who you are playing against.

“If you have got 11 men behind the ball who are well organised sometimes it is difficult to score.

“The longer the game goes on, the anxiety bulids up in the crowd. And you just need to learn to be able to accept that but also just somehow block it out and stay focused.

“To do that every single game is really tiring, you know – mentally and physically – to sustain it as well.

“Anyone who is able to play at Celtic for a long time, like James Forrest and Callum McGregor, to have that kind of relentless mentality .. it is genuinely tiring.”
