A fresh update has now shed light on what Atletico Madrid are thinking about a potential move for Cristian Romero this summer after Tottenham put a big price tag on the centre-back.
Over the last week, various sources have claimed that Romero is ready to join Atletico Madrid in the summer after recently speaking with Diego Simeone regarding the possibility.
The centre-back has just two years left on his contract and after their inability to tie him down to a new deal, it has been suggested that Tottenham are now ready to listen to offers for Romero this summer.
Atletico have now learned how much the Premier League side want for the centre-back, with the La Liga giants expecting the deal to be complicated.

According to Thursday’s print edition of AS (as relayed by Sport Witness), Atletico are desperate to bolster their defence this summer and Simeone feels Romero’s addition would substantially improve his side’s backline.
As a result, the club have now settled on Romero as their top ‘priority’ for the summer, but they are aware that they will have to work hard to get a deal done as Tottenham are ‘tough negotiators’.
The publication explains that the Lilywhites have now asked Atletico to pay €80m (£68.6m) for their vice-captain, which is not a valuation that the Spanish club are not ready to meet.

AS go on to explain that Atletico will try their best to bring the price down to around €40m-€50m (£34.3m-£42.8m).
Despite not being willing to meet Tottenham’s asking price, they have not given up on Romero and have already made it clear to the Argentina international that he is their priority target.
With the Spurs man being attracted to the project at Metropolitano Stadium, Atletico believe that the player’s desire to join them could help them in their efforts to finalise the operation.
