CELTIC and Rangers sharing a stadium isn’t exactly something you’d expect to see.
But alongside Glasgow City, it’s something that very much could become a reality.

That’s because the three powerhouses of women’s football are reportedly in tentative talks over a revolutionary groundshare.
The Herald are reporting that Celtic, Glasgow City and Rangers are involved in early discussions initiated by Mike Mulraney, the Scottish FA’s President.
It’s claimed the three Glasgow clubs – who are all full-time – are ‘receptive’ to the idea of sharing a brand new stadium.
It’s also suggested the Scotland women’s national team could play in the new arena, which would hold between 3,000 and 5,000 supporters.

The proposal is seen as part of a push to grow the women’s game in Scotland ahead of the country co-hosting matches at the 2035 Women’s World Cup.
Glasgow City currently play at Petershill Park, while Celtic play home games at Hamilton’s New Douglas Park.
Rangers have been using Broadwood in Cumbernauld, the former home of Clyde.
Described as a ‘hub venue’, the new stadium would permit two of the teams to play home matches each weekend.
It isn’t the first time this year that the groundsharing proposals have been floated.
The idea was first publicly suggested by Donald Gillies, the managing director of Rangers Women.

At a Rangers Fan Advisory Board meeting, Gillies spoke about the idea of creating a purpose-built stadium for women’s football in Glasgow.
He said: “Let me choose my words carefully. I stress this is only aspirational, but there would be ways of doing it with multi partnership groups, particularly the other women’s teams in Glasgow, as well as the Scotland national team.
“It could be funded by four or five different organisations and clubs.
“In my opinion, Hampden isn’t working for the women’s national team. It’s too big for attendances of 8,000.
“But if you had a fit for purpose stadium specifically for women’s football, with restaurants and other facilities, a grass playing surface and capacity of 8,000, then suddenly you’re looking at stadia sell-outs and a better atmosphere and matchday experience.
“You could have that Friday night football and two games on a Sunday, one after the other. You’d have a fit for purpose stadium with two sets of home and away dressing rooms, on opposite sides of the pitch.

“Strategically, that needs to be part of the conversation. I believe it should be the next landmark moment for the women’s game in Scotland.”
Given the SFA now seem to be involved in early-level discussions, it appears the idea could get off the ground.
