Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher in complete agreement as they predict Newcastle United vs Ipswich Town

The Magpies started last weekend in third place, but will begin the next round of Premier League fixtures in fifth.

Newcastle’s loss to Aston Villa on Saturday evening allowed Nottingham Forest and Manchester City to leapfrog them, as five clubs battle for three Champions League slots.
Eddie Howe’s side have the ideal chance to hit back this weekend, as they welcome Ipswich Town to St James’ Park. It is also a massive game for Kieran McKenna’s side, who will be relegated from the Premier League if they fail to win on Tyneside.
Even that might not be enough, as a West Ham draw against Brighton would condemn Ipswich to Championship football next season.
Newcastle United are massive favourites for this game, which is why Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright are all confident that the home side will win in emphatic fashion.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Stick To Football podcast on The Overlap YouTube channel, Neville, Carragher and Wright gave their predictions for Newcastle United vs Ipswich Town.
Neville: “Newcastle Ipswich, that is a home-banker. An absolute home-banker.”
Carragher: “I would go 3-0 [to Newcastle]. They concede a lot of goals, Ipswich.”
Neville: “I agree with that.”
Wright: “4-0 Newcastle. I feel like Newcastle have to do something off the back of that Villa result.”
Newcastle United relegated Sheffield United last season
For the second season in a row, Newcastle United can relegate a club at St James’ Park.
While this season it is Ipswich Town whose relegation could be confirmed, in 2024 it was Sheffield United.
The Magpies beat Chris Wilder’s side 5-1 on Tyneside, blowing the Blades away thanks to goals from Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson.

That game saw Will Osula make his first St James’ Park appearance, coming on as a substitute for Sheffield United. A few months later and he would become a Newcastle United player.
He will be involved on Saturday, with Osula expected to be on the Newcastle bench once again. He will hope to make a cameo as a substitute, having seen his opportunities limited.
If Newcastle do beat Ipswich, they will jump up to third in the Premier League. That is because Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are not in action due to competing in the FA Cup semi-finals.
