‘It’s business’ – Dan Burn sends Brighton message to show true Newcastle United colours

Dan Burn has admitted Brighton have Newcastle United’s number but plans to change that next weekend.
The Seagulls have beaten Newcastle twice at St James’ Park this season, including last month’s FA Cup triumph. In truth, Brighton have been a thorn in United’s side for over a decade, with the two clubs also competing for the Championship title eight years ago.
The Magpies travel to the south coast next weekend aiming to overcome their hoodoo and take a huge step towards Champions League qualification. As it stands, Newcastle sit third in the Premier League with four games remaining.
Toon chiefs raided Brighton following the Saudi-backed takeover to sign Burn for £13million. With the Magpies hurtling towards relegation, Eddie Howe fulfilled the defender’s dream by giving him a chance to play for his boyhood club.

Initially viewed as a stop-gap signing to get Newcastle out of trouble, Burn has exceeded all expectations. The 32-year-old will be eulogised on Tyneside forever for scoring in the Carabao Cup final last month.
Burn has no time for sentiment when he returns to his former club next weekend. He is aiming to set the record straight and help Newcastle win for the first time at the Amex since 2017.
“We are in a good position,” Burn said after the Ipswich Town win. “I think all of the teams around us are picking up points but so are we. We have good momentum but it would be nice to go down there and put on a good performance.
“It would be nice to get a result because I sort of feel like they have had my number the last few times we have been down there. We haven’t really performed well against them but it’s the business end of the season now.”

While Brighton remains important, Burn believes the remaining home games against Chelsea and Everton could be where the Champions League race is won. He added: (It was) a huge win. I think the home games are going to be really important and I think that was one on paper that everyone expects us to just turn up and win.
“So there was that extra bit of pressure on that one. Once we had scored that penalty and they had gone down to 10 men, I think we did a really good job of seeing the game out.
“We have played against 10 men before and took our foot off the gas a little bit, played slowly and let teams back in. But I think we were really good. I thought we could have scored more than we got but we were good value for the win.”
