Aston Villa and Manchester United supporters both fear the worst after the news that Marcus Rashford could miss the rest of the season.

Rashford’s form since his February loan move to Aston Villa has helped to revitalise his reputation at the top, with four goals and six assists across 17 appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.

Emery’s usage of Rashford on both the left flank and as his lone frontman in recent weeks has raised the possibility of Ollie Watkins being displaced by the Man United loanee, if Villa can buy him permanently.

Villa are expected to struggle to compete for Rashford’s signature this summer, with the 27-year-old’s hefty wage packet and £40million transfer fee accompanied by the precarious PSR situation at Villa Park.

Aston Villa dealt huge blow by Marcus Rashford injury update

Rashford missed Villa’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace on Saturday due to a hamstring injury, and watched from the sidelines as Emery’s side were hammered 3-0 to exit the cup in dismal fashion.

However, that’s now set to be the first of several matches Rashford won’t feature in as the campaign comes to an end, as David Ornstein reported via X (28 April) that he’ll miss the rest of Villa’s season.

Rashford‘s hamstring injury doesn’t require surgery and he could potentially return against Tottenham on the final day, but as things stand, the England forward could have played his last game in claret and blue.

🚨 Marcus Rashford expected to miss rest of season with hamstring injury. No surgery + rehab at #AVFC as tests ongoing. #THFC game not totally ruled out but highly likely campaign over & 27yo to focus on getting fit for England games in June @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/RTzF1M9o0u

Fans react to Rashford setback at Aston Villa – ‘that’s ‘

Rashford’s return to Man United at season’s end now looks inevitable despite his £40m option to buy at Villa Park, with an effort made by Rashford to not cut himself off from his prior Old Trafford team-mates.

Villa are better-placed than some other Premeir League teams to sign Rashford this summer, but few fans expect a deal to be struck now, and one said “that’s the last we’ll see of Rashford” after his injury.

United supporters were also left doubtful by Rashford’s latest setback, with one worried that his transfer saga will now “drag all over the summer” with “no chance” of Villa or other big clubs likely to buy him.

Thanks for everything Rashford 💜💙💜💜 https://t.co/bnG6Gx2A2D

Guess that is the last we will see of Rashford as a Villa player then. Shame, as he has been a breath of fresh air for us. You never know, yet I just can’t see us coughing up the amount of wages he would want. #AVFC https://t.co/0oKtdI6b28

Too bad he was enjoying his football at Villa

It’s really a shame for Rashford.
He was finally getting back to his level physically and mentally after a few difficult months.

Shame Rashford never got to enjoy a big moment with us. Thought he was destined for one at Wembley. Sad!

Have largely enjoyed his performances, good luck to him.

Rashford out for season is shame for him and Villa. Don’t think it massively impacts his ability to get a move in the summer. He’s shown enough I reckon

decent loan nonetheless, showed the world he still has it at the biggest stage

Can already see the Rashford saga dragging all over summer. No chance Villa will buy him
