The Hoops have romped to a fourth consecutive Premiership title having thumped Dundee United 5-0 at Tannadice last weekend to seal the deal.
The champions are Scotland’s unstoppable force and it appears the 11 other top-flight clubs have zero answers in stopping Brendan Rodgers‘ machine.
Celtic got off to a shaky start against United, but eventually found their rhythm, particularly in the second-half as they blew Jim Goodwin’s side away.
And Sutton has hinted that a factor in Celtic’s tremendous play last weekend was down to the quality of the Tannadice pitch.
Sutton baffled by quality of Tannadice pitch vs Celtic
Speaking on The Warm-Up podcast ahead of Rangers vs Celtic this Sunday, Sutton was joined by Kris Boyd, Steven Naismith and host Gordon Duncan.
Sutton was asked initially by Naismith if Celtic’s edge and motivation to win football matches has returned after a sloppy patch in form.
The ex-Celtic man replied by referring to the St Johnstone defeat at McDiarmid Park, before getting sidetracked by mentioning the poor quality of the pitch in Perth.
He then shared his bewilderment as to why United delivered such a high quality pitch in time for playing Celtic last weekend, suggesting that a better surface makes it easier for the Hoops to play on.
Sutton: “I don’t know why Scottish clubs have such brilliant surfaces when they play Celtic and Rangers. I mean, Dundee United’s at the weekend, it’s unbelievable! They are superior players, especially Celtic.
Boyd: “Do you want them all to play on cow fields?”
Sutton: “Well yeah, like the good, old Motherwell days. Play on a sandpit.”
Duncan: “It’s a bowling green now.”
Sutton: “Well yeah it is! That’s the whole point.”

McDiarmid Park’s pitch was dealt a harsh winter and struggled to recover even in time for their game against Celtic on April 6, which the Bhoys lost 1-0.
The standard of the pitch definitely played a factor in Celtic’s defeat, as they failed to pass crisply enough along the bobbly and muddy surface.
Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park is a synthetic surface and can be horrible to play on given the extra bounce of the ball on the plastic grass.
Ross County’s Dingwall pitch wasn’t the greatest over the winter period but the Hoops managed to overcome that and win 4-1 on January 11.
Celtic’s away form in the top-flight has been pretty good this season, but not flawless. They have lost three times on the road and have drew on two occasions.
That means they have 12 wins from 17 matches – and they’ll be hoping to make that 13 from 18 on Sunday as they travel to Ibrox to play Rangers.
