‘Who wouldn’t’ – Dominic Calvert-Lewin drops major Newcastle transfer hint

Newcastle United transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin has indicated he is prepared to stay on Merseyside amid a year of links with the Magpies.
The Everton centre-forward is believed to have changed agent and is open to staying on with the Toffees as they prepare to move to Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium. With Calvert-Lewin not signing a new deal at Everton, the door had been open for United to pounce on a free transfer.

However, new comments to the BBC from the ex-England striker suggest that he is ready to sit down with his current employers and extend his stay. The Magpies pulled out of talks for Calvert-Lewin last summer after he was involved in swap discussions for Yankuba Minteh.

When asked for a fresh statement on his future, Calvert-Lewin said: “I’m an Everton player and my focus will always be on doing my best for Everton and I have a lot of respect for Everton football club. It’s given me everything I have today.

“My main focus is making sure I am in the best condition, it is like going through a mini pre-season to get fit for these last four games. With the new manager coming in the club is moving in the right direction, there’s a new stadium and there’s a lot to be positive about.

“Who wouldn’t want to be part of that? There was a lot of uncertainty for a long time a little bit higher up and arguably the last three seasons have been the most difficult in Everton’s Premier League history and I have been there leading the line through that.

Eddie Howe is believed to be a fan of Calvert-Lewin but has a number of other options on his summer wish-list. He is likely to search for a new striker if Callum Wilson’s contract is not extended in the next few weeks.
