As always, there is a lot of noise around Celtic’s clash at Rangers on Sunday at Ibrox.

Even though Celtic are crowned champions of Scotland, their fourth title in a row, 14 out of 15 seasons and 55th overall, you can bet your bottom dollar that this final Glasgow derby of the season is going to be as hotly-contested as ever.

There never has been, and never will be, any love lost between the clubs, and even though this is a dead rubber on paper, it will be far from that when the game kicks off.

But you always have respect, and it seems as though Celtic winning the Premiership title again, isn’t going to be respected as it should be by some.

As many would have seen, there has been a lot of noise around whether Rangers will provide Celtic with a guard of honour.

Stand-in Rangers boss Barry Ferguson has confirmed that there will be no guard of honour, but the man who last won a title for Rangers – Steven Gerrard – put it best back in 2015.

Rangers might not showcase their class by providing Celtic with a guard of honour, but Gerrard knows how it was done.

Despite a stellar playing career, including winning the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, he never won that league title as a player.

But, one thing Gerrard did in 2015 was show his respect and provide the then-champions of England, Chelsea, with a guard of honour, despite there being no love lost between the two.

And the former midfielder stated to Sky Sports in 2015 how Chelsea ‘deserved’ the guard of honour, so perhaps Rangers can take a leaf out of their own legends book.

“It’s not nice when you’re doing it for other people,” stated Gerrard. “But this football club has always shown respect, and the guard of honour comes with tradition.

“Chelsea have won the league, they are champions, have a terrific manager, and deserve the guard of honour today, but it certainly wasn’t nice doing it.”

Many are hoping Rodgers signs a new contract because, every season he has been in charge of Scotland’s most successful club, he has delivered the title.

And, in a few weeks time, if Celtic can see off Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final, then it’s yet another trophy for the Northern Irishman in the green and white colours.

It will further prove the utter dominance he has ruled with during his time as the Celtic manager, as nobody has come close, so perhaps more guard of honour talk is on the offing.
