BOX OFFICE MOURINHO – JOSE MOURINHO MAKES CLEAR DECISION ON RANGERS JOB AND WAS SPOT-ON ON RANGERS-CELTIC COMPARISON

THERE’s been a lot of speculation surrounding Jose Mourinho and Rangers in recent months.

The legendary Portuguese manager has been linked with a sensational move to Glasgow to become the next permanent manager of the club.

Mourinho, 62, has been the biggest name tipped to take on the Rangers job, with fans purring at the prospect of such a blockbuster appointment.

Just a few months ago such a suggestion would have you laughed at.

But many now believe it could become a reality with the financial backing of incoming US owners 49ers Enterprisers.

Mourinho does however still have one year left on his Fenerbahce contract and there’s been little talk of him parting ways with the Turkish giants before his deal expires.

He only joined the Istanbul side last summer but he’ll end his first season trophyless after Galatasaray sealed their title win at the weekend.

But although Mourinho missed out on silverware this season, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc insists the legendary boss will STAY to put things right next year.

The Turkish chief is confident Mourinho is happy where he is and has rubbished any rumours suggesting the club are looking at other managerial options.

Addressing the gaffer’s future in a press conference, Koc said: “We want to continue with Jose Mourinho for stability. I find it more appropriate for Mourinho to continue for the benefit of Fenerbahçe.”

There may have been doubts over where Mourinho’s head was at earlier in the season.

But he made his intentions clear in January when he turned down a big-money offer from an unnamed club to stay at Fenerbhace, according to Koc.

And if Rangers are to have any chance of convincing him to part ways then they may have to launch a ridiculous offer of their own.

The Fenerbahce president added: “Jose Mourinho was offered €36million Euros (£30m) during the mid-season break , but he chose to stay at the club. This decision shows his belief in the project.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean the manager won’t be interested if the Light Blues come calling in the summer.

Koc said: “It takes two to tango, if Jose Mourinho wants to leave, the conditions are clear. If he wants to leave, there are things in the contract that are necessary, such as giving up one year’s salary.

“We have a separate relationship with the coach. He knows my family, my father, my wife, my child, we eat together all the time. He hasn’t met his family, they haven’t come yet.

“We are still together, if something different comes from him, we will see.”
