Leeds United Responds to FA Charges Over Fans’ Behavior at Title Parade
Leeds United have issued an official statement addressing charges from the Football Association (FA) concerning the behavior of supporters during the club’s Championship title parade on May 5, 2025. The open-top bus parade, which celebrated the club’s promotion to the Premier League and their 100-point Championship triumph, saw an estimated 150,000 fans flood Leeds city centre, creating an electrifying atmosphere but also leading to incidents that prompted FA scrutiny.
The FA charged Leeds United with a breach of Rule E20, alleging the club failed to ensure supporters conducted themselves in an orderly manner. Reports highlighted the use of pyrotechnics, including flares and smoke bombs, alongside isolated incidents of disorder, such as fans climbing trees, bus shelters, and traffic lights to gain vantage points. Two serious injuries were reported: a 34-year-old man assaulted outside Browns on The Headrow and a 23-year-old who fell from a tree in Millennium Square, both requiring hospital treatment.
In their statement, Leeds United expressed pride in the overwhelming support from fans, which underscored the deep bond between the club and the city. However, they acknowledged the FA’s concerns, stating, “We are fully cooperating with the Football Association and West Yorkshire Police to investigate the reported incidents. The safety and well-being of our supporters remain our top priority, and we condemn any behavior that endangers others.” The club also committed to working with authorities to identify those involved in unlawful acts and to prevent future occurrences.
Manager Daniel Farke, who led the team to the title, praised the fans’ passion but urged restraint, saying, “Our supporters are the heartbeat of this club, but we must celebrate responsibly.” The club faces a potential fine, similar to a 2020 case when they accepted a charge for pyrotechnic use during celebrations at Pride Park.
Leeds City Council, which helped organize the parade, echoed the club’s sentiments, noting the event’s success despite the incidents. They encouraged fans to follow safety guidelines at future celebrations. As Leeds prepare for their Premier League return, the club is focused on channeling the fans’ energy into positive support while addressing the FA’s charges to maintain their strong community ties.
