Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to the incredible Celtic support that made their voices heard loud and clear during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Ibrox. The Hoops boss, who guided the Bhoys through a heated Glasgow derby, praised the fans who filled the away end with songs, colour and constant support throughout the game.
Despite Rangers refusing to give the champions a guard of honour, the away support let everyone know exactly who the top side in Scotland is.
Rodgers, speaking earlier today, made a point of recognising their importance and the part they played in securing a point despite being 1-0 down at half-time.
He said: (Celtic FC YouTube), “We’ve had those experiences before when you have 7,000 people behind the goal and it’s just such a wall of noise and colour which gives the players a great boost.
“But the 2,500 in the corner was still a great boost for us, just knowing that you’re in that arena and you have millions of people watching worldwide, but you’ve got that support in there that just gives you that extra push when it’s needed in the game.
“So, yeah, it was absolutely fantastic to have them there. We could hear them the whole game. The support they gave us really helped us push through, especially in that second half. So yeah, it was a nice moment to have the supporters back again.”
The game wasn’t as exciting as some past derbies, but the fans made it special. From the first minute to the last, the Celtic support kept singing, and Rodgers emphasised that the players felt their support all the way through.
Even with just 2,500 fans allowed in due to Ibrox’s stance on away support, those Celtic supporters showed exactly why the Hoops are simply the best — both before kick-off and throughout the match.0
